Unique piece, handmade in Normandy (France).
Enter the mysterious universe of wild and deep Nature and the relationship that humans have with Mother Nature and animals. Cernunnos, the Great « Horned », is the Celtic deer-antler god of virility, wealth, woodlands, animals and the regeneration of life.
This large artisanal knife, whose blade was forged by La forge d’Asgeir en San Maï, a laminated steel with a damask reading (made up of 69 layers of steel folded back on themselves) with a bark pattern. Food grade steel for cooking professionals with high corrosion resistance. The blade is 10.5 cm long and 23 mm wide. Its back is guilloché (decorative carving) of small waves. The handle is in French olive and burl walnut (precious wood), both not from deforestation. It was carved by me with a gouge and wood chisels on its left side of a deer’s head. Around the bottom rim, interlacing goes around it and goes up to the entire back. The right blank is, omitted these interlacing, sober in order to highlight the veins of these two very beautiful wood species, all in contrasts. The handle is 14 cm long and 4 cm wide. It is therefore a fairly massive handle.
Done « four hands » for many hours, in Normandy in our workshop.
All the materials used are as eco-responsible as possible and the wood is naturally treated with a fungicide and a natural anti-parasite (traditional mixture in Scandinavia of northern pine sap and plant distillates), a pigmented patina natural, an absolutely non-toxic natural varnish and a bio-sourced resin.
Possibility of making a custom walnut sheath and / or payment in installments, contact me for more information and a quote.
Care advice: after washing, wipe your knife directly with a clean cloth. Do not let it soak in water. To nourish the handle, you can use a natural oil such as linseed oil to apply with a soft cloth and to sharpen the blade you can use a natural water stone (you can buy these items if needed on Benjamin’s ETSY site: https://www.etsy.com/fr/shop/AsgeirCraft). To clean the blade, you can use a little alcohol and rub gently.
